Quietly cool and contemporary, this small hotel has an insider vibe.
Good value for money, this 22-room hotel is unpretentious and welcoming, just like the young staff. Modern, uncluttered rooms are simple but thoughtfully designed. A second wing with 11 bigger and better rooms was added in March 2010.
Location:
On a narrow backstreet close to Monastiraki flea market, this is the only hotel in Psyrri, a charming district of antique shops, artisans, and ouzeris. It’s a short stroll from Plaka, the Parthenon, and the trendier bars of Gazi.
Bedrooms:
Unfussy rooms are more beige and brown (with splashes of pink and orange) than ochre and brown, as the hotel's O&B name suggests. All rooms come with free wi-fi and a DVD library, great rain showers and Molton Brown amenities. All-natural Cocomat bedding and Egyptian cotton sheets guarantee a good night’s sleep. For longer stays, choose one of the larger rooms in the new wing. Top-floor suites have private terraces (at a price). You can see the Parthenon from the bed in room 24, but room 22 has the best angle on the Acropolis as a whole. Apart from the suites, there’s not much of a view – most rooms overlook the bustling backstreet. The hotel was recently soundproofed, so noise shouldn’t be a problem.

Public areas:
The colourful, glass-walled lobby leads onto a little bar hidden at the rear. The all-day restaurant, where breakfast is served, is brighter and more appealing.
Eating and drinking:
A la carte breakfast is served until 11.30 – perfect for late-night revellers. Everything is made in-house, including delicious spinach and feta pie, walnut cake, and fresh lemonade. Sandwiches, salads and burgers are available all day; try the Greek burger – miniature kebabs wrapped in pitta bread with yoghurt and tomato dips. Mediterranean dishes (pasta with smoked aubergine, tomato and feta, or pork in apple and rosemary sauce) are served in the reasonably priced restaurant.
Service:
With 18 (young, eager) staff for 22 rooms, guests are treated as individuals. Personalised service starts before check-in with ‘O&B My Way’: pre-book your choice of pillow, kids’ toys, newspapers, and even bedside reading online.

The Acropolis Package is great value. For a minimum five-night stay, you get a 30% discount, breakfast in bed, and free entry to all the major archaeological sites.
