Expert review of Sheraton La Caleta Resort and Spa
One of the first deluxe hotels to be built in the upmarket Costa Adeje resorts, the Sheraton has since been outclassed by many of the resort’s bigger and shinier upstarts. However, it still retains that distinctive Sheraton style. The grounds are particularly impressive.
In a quiet location at the western edge of the main Costa Adeje area, and next door to La Caleta fishing village with its popular seafood restaurants. The resort facilities of Costa Adeje are a 20 minute to half hour walk or a short taxi ride away, as is the nightlife of Playa de Las Américas. The nearest good beach is a 10-minute walk along the coast to Del Duque.
There’s nothing particularly exciting about the choice of colour schemes or furnishings in the bedrooms, but the rooms are generously sized, clean and bright in Mediterranean sunny yellows or warm salmon. The best part is the Sheraton Sweet Sleeper which has to be one of the most comfortable beds known to man…or woman. If budgets allow, I’d recommend upgrading to one of the Club rooms which are on the top floor. You get acres more floor space, a music system, a coffee machine and access to the Club lounge where you can top up on nibbles between meals.

The Sheraton’s distinctive low rise, sandstone turrets, terracotta tiles and tea wood features lend it a warm, colonial style. The lobby has a full glass frontage overlooking the pools and gardens, a high ceiling and colonial style easy chairs and settees in muted earth tones. Potted palms and chandeliers add that ‘days of the Raj’ finishing touch.
Buffet breakfast and dinner is served in the bright and airy El Parador restaurant or on the outside terrace in its faux cave setting by the pool. Food is well prepared and fresh with plenty of choice, but with restaurants like the Coeur de Fillet and the Monte Christo a short taxi ride away and La Caleta in easy strolling distance for seafood lunches and tapas, I’d recommend staying on a bed and breakfast basis.
Paths meander through extensive landscaped gardens rich in exotic plants to a series of pools, the largest of which has a wooden walkway to an island Jacuzzi. Thatched gazebos, lawns and palm groves add to the colonial feel of the place and remind me of hotels in the Far East. There’s an excellent spa and wellbeing centre which incorporates a fitness centre.
Professional, helpful, deferential.

Business people, couples and families. Too remote from nightlife for singles.
WiFi is available but connection is slow and the hotel charges 20 euros a day for its usage – ouch.
